Students planning to study in Germany from India for more than 90 days must apply for a national visa. This visa is issued for long-term stays, including preparatory courses at Studienkolleg or full university programs. After arrival in Germany, students must apply for a residence permit from the local foreigners’ authority at their place of study.
International degree programs are taught in English, so students planning to study in Germany must demonstrate English proficiency.
Accommodation is an important aspect for students planning to study in Germany for Indian students. It is highly recommended to secure student hostel accommodation during the initial period.

Students who study in Germany are allowed to work part-time while studying. After the first three months, students can work 120 full days or 240 half days per year, helping them manage living expenses and gain work experience.
After completing their studies, international students are allowed to stay in Germany for up to 1.5 years to search for employment. This stay-back option is highly beneficial for graduates completing masters in Germany and other specialized programs.
Students who study in Germany are allowed to work during study. After first 3 months, students are permitted to work 140 full or 280 half days.
After completion of study at the university, students studying in Germany from India are allowed to stay up to 1.5 years in order to apply for jobs. Upon receiving a Letter of Intent or a Work contract, one may apply for a Work Permit at the Local Employment Office. Issuance of a work permit may take around 4 to 6 weeks.
